Prepositions are very hard to describe without sounding incomprehensibly technical - just try looking up a definition of them and you'll see what I mean! But basically they are those little words like in, at, by, with, from, and they tell you about the relationship between two words (usually nouns or pronouns) in a sentence. So the cheese is in the fridge tells you something about the relationship between the cheese and the fridge (it's in it as opposed to under it or behind it). But I'll leave it there.
